Brow & Crown Collective

As a freelance designer, I designed and built a website on Squarespace for a small beauty business in Pittsburgh.

As the sole designer working with two business owners, I wore quite a few hats.

ROLE

Freelance Designer

Context

Brow & Crown Collective is the child of two like-minded business owners in the beauty industry. The clients desired a brand style and website that fit their vision of confidence, welcome, and whimsy.

Problem

Small business owners needed to establish a brand presence and website for a newly launched beauty business with an existing client base.

Goal

Design and build a site in time for the salon's grand opening.

Design Process

Through discovery work, we were able to identify our priorities for the site launch.

Research

  • Competitive analysis
  • Customer surveys
  • User interviews

Solutions

  • The site needs a photography-focused portfolio of work
  • The visual style of the site needs to match the eclectic style of their interior space
  • Users need to view each service page with portfolio images according to their selection
  • The user books through Square, so getting the client confident enough to book before sending them to a separate portal was vital
A screenshot of the homepage for the website, which includes many sections.

Outcomes

We successfully built a website that encapsulates their personality and provides users with enough information to feel comfortable (and excited!) to book an appointment.

Deliverables

  • Brand moodboard
  • Information architecture
  • Wireframes and low-fidelity prototype
  • High-fidelity mockups
  • Site launch on Squarespace

Results

  • This project was an opportunity for me to bring a brand to life from scratch, and the day we launched the site was thrilling!
  • Future steps are to monitor the site’s analytics and collect additional client feedback
